Insurance Adjuster Secrets - 5 Simple Strategies They Use Against You!

What are the best insurance adjuster secrets can you give me? One of my readers wrote... the answer is not a simple one since there are many different types of strategist out there to get you to settle for less. Since we can be talking about property damages, wage loss, pain and suffering, total loss, rental cars, and many other types of claims, I will give you the most common insurance adjuster secrets and techniques use when negotiating in general. The ones the insurance company taught me when I was working for them.
  1. Playing musical chairs - A very common technique. Adjusters love to "change", "reassign" or "exchange" claims among them. Many times the adjuster supervisor steps in and re assigns the claim. This makes you renegotiate settled points. Dealing with new adjusters helps the insurance company isolate different issues. Joe will settle the total loss, Ben will settle fault, and Karen will settle the injury. This way, insurance adjusters can "throw" the ball among them, and they do not have to give you a straight answer. "Well sir, I think the answer is A, but you need to talk to Ben about that and he is out of the office for a week".
  2. Changing the shape of the money - "I am very sorry that you had a headache and lower back pain for more than two weeks. That is certainly a shame. We only can give you, at the very most "$2,500" which can pay for a trip to Mexico for two. Why don't you treat yourself and take your wife in a nice Caribbean cruise?" This is very powerful. Adjusters do this every day and this one is only one of their powerful strategies. If the adjuster is settling a younger person, the offer would be $250 for an IPod or a PSP. This "helps" the injured party spend the money in their heads, and makes them want to settle. Remember, you are settling for pain. You want money, not IPods, Cruises, Laptops, or Video games.
  3. Time of the day - Adjusters want to call you when it is inconvenient for you. Yeah, they want time to be able to explain their position, but not give you much time to rebut. They probably will hate me for revealing one of the most rude insurance adjuster secrets. They will call you at 7:30 A.M. when you are about to go to work. They want to put pressure on you so you settle right there and then. It "helps" you think "I am done dealing with this people. I just settle and move on with my life". You can turn this one around. Call the adjuster just before their lunch hour or before they leave for a three day weekend. They want to get out of the office and go home; you can get a better offer if the adjuster wants to go see their family.
  4. Christmas is a wonderful time for Insurance Companies. Every one seems to be broke right before or after Christmas. Even if you are not a Christian, it just seems that the retail industry is able to sucker all of us into spending more than we have. Consequently, most people are broke right about then. Insurance companies push adjusters (I was one of them) to be more aggressive around this time of the year. They also apply this technique around other holidays. Think about it. You need money for the kids' toys? So Why not give in and settle for $1,000? Adjusters are savvy and this is a great time for them. Where I used to work, December and January were the best times to settle claims. Our success rate increased by 70%.
  5. The Mute Button-one of the most powerful insurance adjuster secrets. I was trained to give an offer and hit the mute button. The rule was that we could not emit a sound after the offer was on the table. This often worked. You were ensuring that you would not make a second offer in the same conversation. If my offer was $10,000 then I wanted to hear a response. I did not want to say $10,000 but if you settle today $11,000. This would be considered bidding against oneself. Insurance adjuster will never (unless the adjuster is not trained correctly) give you two different offers in the same conversation. They will give you an offer and wait to see what you say. Use this against the insurance company. Counter offer and hit the mute button!
All the best,
Hector Quiroga

SR-22 Florida Auto Insurance Basic Information

SR-22 is not a type of Florida auto insurance. It is the name of the form used by auto insurance companies to certify compliance for persons required to maintain minimum limits of liability insurance. The SR-22 form is submitted by auto insurance companies to the Florida Bureau of Financial Responsibility for policyholders who are mandated to submit proof of liability insurance.
For most residents the minimum mandatory Florida car insurance, as indicated in the Florida No Fault Law, is $10,000 of Personal Injury Protection and $10,000 of Property Damage Liability. Bodily Injury Liability indicated on an SR-22, in addition to the No Fault Law requirement, is for persons who meet certain criteria. Drivers who fail to provide proof of insurance after an accident, or accumulated too many points on their license, may require an SR22. Drivers with a DUI conviction require Florida FR44 insurance not an SR22.

Minimum Bodily Injury Liability limits to be in compliance with a Florida SR-22 are $10,000 per person and $20,000 per accident. A combined single limit of liability in the amount of $30,000 would also fulfill the SR-22 requirement. As of October 1, 2007 a driver convicted of operating a vehicle under the influence (DUI) will be required to secure higher limits and submit proof via an FR44 filing not an SR22.

The premium for Bodily Injury Liability insurance is the same from your insurance company regardless of an SR-22 filing requirement. The only additional cost to the insured for the SR-22, in Florida, is a $15.00 filing fee. However, drivers who are required to file an SR-22 generally pay more than other drivers for their insurance premium due to the reason for the SR-22, such as, an at fault car accident or a conviction for driving under the influence.

Once mandated by the Bureau of Financial Responsibility to have on file an SR-22, failure to do so may result in your driver license and or vehicle license plate being suspended. Reinstatement of your driver license and or license plate will only occur after certified proof of the required liability insurance in the form of an SR-22 is filed with the Bureau of Financial Responsibility. Reinstatement fees will apply in addition to the $15.00 filing fee. Forms SR-22 and FR-44 are submitted (filed) by the insurance company. The submissions are transmitted electronically and 15 days is the allowable time for the company to file after a policy begins.

Florida SR22 insurance is fast and easy with Florida Auto Plus Insurance. We quote the lowest rates from the best companies. Florida DUI insurance, made easy, is welcomed relief for anyone going through this experience. Affordable Auto Insurance in Miami

If you're purchasing car insurance in Miami, you'll need to abide by all of the laws of the state of Florida. If you live in Miami or any other part of Florida, you'll be required by law to have auto insurance that's issued in the state, and have this all taken care of by the time you go to the DMV. Florida ranks high in its auto insurance rates, according to one Web site: at eighth in the state, its average combined premium is $1,148.30. Of that amount, $757 is the average liability premium, $280 is the average collision premium, and $111 is the average comprehensive premium.

Florida Minimum Requirements Apply
If you want to purchase the cheapest car insurance possible, then you'll want to stick with Florida's minimum requirements for auto insurance. Miami's premiums can be slightly more expensive than some other cities or rural parts of the state, but most of the requirements should be the same as in the rest of Florida. The minimum coverage for auto insurance Miami is 10/20/10, which means you're required to have a minimum coverage of $10,000 for bodily injury per person, $20,000 total bodily injury liability and $10,000 in property damage when and if a wreck occurs.

Factors Increasing the Auto Accident Risk in Miami
Miami may not be nearly as big as New York City or Chicago, but it's still a busy city and was ranked by a Texas Transportation Institute as the ninth most congested city in the nation. And despite a slumping economy in Florida, Miami is still a desirable city and it's growing. With a population of almost half a million people, it's one of the most urbanized cities in the U.S., following only New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago. The more congestion, the more irritable and impatient the drivers are, and the more accidents that can occur. Plus, the more cars there are, the higher the chance for an accident - even if all the drivers are patient. Another piece of bad news is that cities along the port tend to have a higher rate of auto theft - a reality that will raise your auto insurance. Miami ranks right up there with other port cities. Also in Miami, the number of drivers in town is higher than in many other cities, because it's a prime tourist destination. Tourists don't know the area as well, and those who drive while handling a map makes them even more accident prone.

Keeping Auto Insurance Miami Rates Low
The fact that Miami is high in auto theft doesn't mean that you have to be part of that negative statistic. Even though the premiums will be higher overall than in other parts of the state, hopefully your salary and opportunities will be higher as well. Make sure you lock your doors at all times, and consider purchasing some safety device that would make your car less prone to theft. If you live in the city, then consider trying to walk to work if it's safe. Otherwise try to live as close to work as possible - the less you drive, the less of a risk the insurance company considers you. Plus, the less you drive the lower your chances of getting pulled over or being in an accident. Other ways to reduce your Miami auto insurance include: raising your deductible, taking a driver's ed course, and owning a pre-owned rather than new vehicle. Sit down and talk with your agent about other potential ways to reduce your monthly premium.

Cheap Miami Car Insurance

If you're looking for cheap Miami car insurance, you're definitely not going to want to purchase anymore than what the State of Florida has set as its minimum car insurance requirements.
Currently, Miami, Florida's minimum car insurance requirements are:
Personal Injury Protection (PIP): $10,000
Property Damage Liability (PDL): $10,000
However, Miami, Florida also has what's called bodily injury coverage (BIL). Up to the limits of your policy, BIL is coverage for any serious personal injuries or death you cause other persons due to a car accident that is your fault.
Sometimes, BIL will cover accidents caused by your or other members of your home, despite the car being driven, as well as covering you in the event that someone to whom you have given permission to drive your car has caused an accident.
The average, safe driver usually doesn't need to purchase BIL in Miami, Florida, making your quest for cheap Miami car insurance easier; however, sometimes you are required to purchase BIL if you have been charged with and convicted of certain motor vehicle-related offenses. Many Miami, Florida drivers may also have to purchase BIL coverage because they do not own their car out right. This means they have a lender, financier, or lien holder who has also invested in the car and requires the "owner" to purchase all available car insurance coverage. Always check with everyone involved in the purchase of your car, including the dealership, about your Miami, Florida car insurance requirements.
Regardless of how much insurance you do, or do not, have to purchase, there are always additional ways to get, and keep, cheap Miami car insurance. For example, keeping your driving record clean by avoiding traffic violations and accidents helps, as does adding safety features to your car. Plus, making regular, on-time insurance payments will prevent your car insurance policy from being cancelled, which always looks good should you choose to switch car insurance companies.

Your Personal Injury Insurance Claim: Several Crucial Insights Into Medical Reimbursements

The best judge of Total Disability and/or Partial Disability is "Ole" Doc Comfort your attending physician. The Medical Report he executes for the insurance company you're battling with, Rock Solid Insurance Corporation, should always contain his comments regarding the nature of your disability. His diagnosis will be crucial to I. M. Smart, the adjuster assigned to handle your claim, because it will detail the duration of your "Pain and Suffering". In addition it will also prove the time you lost from work as being legitimate.
When settlement time arrives, Smart will form a healthy portion of his evaluation based on the documented proof of the length of time of each of the following two elements: "Total" and "Partial" disability - - the both of which will indicate how much they restricted your inability to work and also your social activities.
YOU MUST CONSIDER ALL THE POSSIBLE OPTIONS FOR MEDICAL REIMBURSEMENTS: Be aware that you may be able to collect from your own motor vehicle insurance carrier (via your "Medical
Payments" coverage) plus you may also be able to collect from your own health insurance policy or plan.
Yes, Rock Solid Insurance, in a clear case of liability (and as part of its settlement with you) will pay your medical bills. BUT HOW ABOUT YOUR OWN MOTOR VEHICLE POLICY'S MEDICAL PAYMENTS COVERAGE? You must read your motor vehicle accident policy carefully. It may provide you with coverage up to certain limits (one or two thousand dollars - - some a lot higher) for all the medical bills you had as a result of the accident - - regardless of who was at fault!
"Med Pay" is a separate part of your policy, which you pay extra for, but it's definitely worth it. Since you're shelling out money for this extra coverage you should consider taking advantage of what it offers.
The following people are usually covered under the Med-Pay provisions: You or any relative who lives with you (when driving or riding in your vehicle) plus anybody else who is driving with your permission (and also their invited "guests") who happen to be riding along with them in your car.
It may state in your policy that your insurance company has a right to recover the amount of the Medical Payments made to you should you (later-on-down-that-often-very-loooong-rocky-road) get paid for your loss by Rock Solid. But, even if you don't, you'll still be paid for your medical bills under the Medical Payments (Med-Pay) Coverage of your motor vehicle insurance policy without having to pay your insurance company back.
It's usually a practical move, to elect to file a claim with your own auto insurance company (under the Med-Pay Coverage) so you can be confident all your medical bills are paid in time. Otherwise, your medical providers may get upset because they'll have to wait far too long to be paid (somewhere down the line - - perhaps a year - - sometimes much longer) until you finally settle for your loss with The Rock Solid Insurance Corporation.
***** ***** ***** *****
YOUR OWN HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY/PLAN: There's another possible medical bill coverage for your accident - - and that's your Health Insurance policy or whatever Health Plan you may be under. If the Med-Pay provisions of your motor vehicle policy state that they must be paid back, should you collect from Rock Solid, you may find it more advantageous to file a claim under your Health Insurance policy or some other Health Plan. HOWEVER: You should check the wording in those policies very closely because they may NOT require you to pay them back for the medical payments they've made on your behalf - - even if you collect for your loss from The Rock Solid Insurance Corporation !
There's nothing wrong or immoral about collecting money from more than one source for the same medical bills. Think of it like a Life Insurance Policy. If an individual is paying premiums for three $10.000 Life Insurance Policies and they pass away, is the love-of-their-life (as the named beneficiary) entitled to $10,000 or $30,000? Indeed, because the premiums were paid on all three, that individual is entitled to a payment of $10,000 times three, or $30,000.
By the way, if Adjuster Smart happens to ask you if you have any such options, don't tell him. Whatever other insurance coverage's you have is your own business! It has absolutely nothing to do with the value of your claim, how much money you should be paid for your "Pain and Suffering", nor any other portion of your loss.
NEVER FORGET: You've already paid for these types of coverage and you're entitled to be paid under all your options for reimbursements - - even if that means you're paid by multiple sources for the same bills !

10 reports your car insurance pulls about you

This post comes from Penny Gusner at partner site CarInsurance.com.

CarInsurance.com on MSN MoneyCar insurance companies don’t like guessing games. When you ask for a quote, they want to know who you are and what you’ve been up to. Fortunately for insurers, there are a lot of companies willing to help them.

Convertible © Carlos S.Pereyra, Pixtal, age Here are the most common reports used by car insurance companies to help determine whether they want to insure you and at what price. Some reports you can get yourself, and others you’ll never see.

1. Insurance score

Your credit history is important to car insurance companies because it’s a predictor of how likely you are to pay on time and make a claim. There are exceptions: If you live in California, Hawaii or Massachusetts, auto insurers can’t use credit information to set rates.

A credit score typically takes into account your payment history, amounts owed, length of credit history, new credit and types of credit.

Insurers often pull a report called a FICO insurance score. You can’t get your own insurance score, but your credit score generally mirrors your insurance score as it moves up or down. Therefore, monitoring your credit is important, because bad credit can bump you to a more expensive rate class for insurance.

Sites like WisePiggy.com (a sister site of CarInsurance.com) offer free credit score reports so that you can monitor your status.

2. Attract score

Another credit-based score comes from LexisNexis, a provider of risk and data information services. This is called the Attract Insurance Score and helps insurers judge your risk. Unlike a FICO insurance score, you can get your own Attract score for a modest cost.

3. Disclosure report

Did you give 100 percent accurate information to your car insurance company?  If not, it will find out.  LexisNexis offers insurers a report called RiskView that promises to provide a comprehensive view into a person’s financial health. Not only does it determine your creditworthiness, but the report also confirms some of the information you have provided.

You can order this report from LexisNexis.  It will include a RiskView Consumer Disclosure Report that contains public record information, including:
  • Personal identifying information
  • Property ownership
  • Deed ownership
  • Bankruptcy history
  • Criminal and lien data

4. Claims history

There’s no hiding past claims against you, even if you’ve never told a single soul about an accident.

Car insurance companies feed claims information into central databases. From this massive collection of information, insurers  can request a loss report on an individual. Auto insurers regard your past claims activity as a predictor of future claims.

LexisNexis offers the C.L.U.E. (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) report, which contains up to seven years of personal auto claims including your policy information, vehicle information, claim information, loss information and amounts paid.

Verisk, provider of services to insurers, offers a similar report called the A-Plus (Automobile-Property Loss Underwriting Service).  You can order your own free copy once within a 12-month period from either provider.

5.  Motor vehicle record

You may not remember the when or where of your traffic violations, but these details are pretty important to car insurance carriers.  To double-check the information you provided when asking for a car insurance quote, insurers obtain motor vehicle reports (MVRs) so that they can assess your driving.

Car insurance companies use third-party providers, such as Verisk or LexisNexis, which have access to driving records from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, to obtain your driving record.  You, however, can go straight to the source, your state’s Department of Motor Vehicles, and request a copy of your official record.  A small fee is typically required.

6. Undisclosed-driver report

Maybe your nephew moved in and has been driving your car. Maybe you never mentioned it to your insurance company. Well it’s only a matter of time before they catch up to you.

Car insurance companies want to know about all household members who are licensed drivers and potentially driving your car.

Both Verisk and LexisNexis offer insurance companies reports that uncover “hidden” or “undisclosed” drivers living in your residence by cross-checking public records.  One report keys in on young drivers between the ages of 15 and 25 who are newly licensed but haven’t been disclosed. If a “hidden” driver of any age is found you’ll likely be asked to add the person as a driver or exclude the individual if your state and insurer allow this option.

7. Current carrier report

When you’re applying for auto coverage, a prospective car insurance company can find out how long you’ve been with your current carrier or if you’ve had a lapse in coverage. They access a report that identifies and verifies your current and previous insurance providers.

The report also outlines current and previous policy information including:

  • Policy period
  • Policy status
  • Cancellations, lapses and reinstatements
  • Coverage
  • Limits
  • Deductibles
  • Driver information
  • Vehicle information
  • Insurance discounts

8.  Mileage report

The number of miles you drive makes a difference in how much you pay.  To keep drivers from underestimating their annual mileage, insurance companies can use reports such as Verisk’s MileageConfirm to verify mileage given by applicants or policyholders.  The report provides details such as “annual mileage, commute distance and business use for accuracy, currency and legitimacy.”

See what else makes your rates go up or down with CarInsurance.com’s car insurance calculator.

9. Vehicle-registration report

Your auto insurer may know more about your car than you do after it obtains a report that checks public vehicle and registration information.  A registration report is originally issued by the DMV but both Verisk and LexisNexis offer the service for insurers using the bulk data that it buys.  The report normally details:

  • Vehicle make, model, year, body style and VIN
  • Name and address of vehicle registrant
  • Name of cosigner or second owner (if applicable)
  • Registration expiration date
  • Plate type (regular, vanity, commercial or dealer)
  • Leasing company name (if applicable)
  • If the vehicle has a branded title (salvaged, rebuilt, junked, flooded, or the like)

This report gives your car insurance company insight into your lapses in registration, shared vehicle ownership, or if the vehicle has a branded title.

10.   OFAC compliance

Insurance companies are mandated by the federal government to check customers' names (and those to whom they send claim settlement checks) against a list published by the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). This is so insurers don’t do business with people suspected of international drug trafficking, terrorism or activities related to the production of weapons of mass destruction.

Verisk offers insurance companies a service that checks customers against the OFAC watch list.  A notification report is produced only if there is a match, so this is one report that insurance companies would prefer not to receive.

Best Auto Insurance Rates for SR22 Plans Now Featured at Quotes Company Website

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 28, 2014

The coverage that some insurance agencies provide for motor vehicle owners is a form known as SR22. This specialized coverage is now searchable at the Quotes Pros website to aid consumers in finding new rates online. Some of the best auto insurance rates for SR22 plans are viewable at http://quotespros.com/auto-insurance.html.

You deserve to be rewarded for safe driving

Newmarket Era

If you take driving safely seriously, your auto insurance policy should too.

Insurance brokers offer a range of discounts to reward clean driving records and years of experience on the road. In this article we’ll run through some of the discounts available for drivers. When you’re shopping for insurance, make sure you ask your broker which discounts you may qualify for.

A clean driving record really does go a long way when it comes to savings. If you have no convictions and are claim free, you should be eligible for discounts. Your years of experience can also work in your favour, and mature policyholder discounts reward those who have proven themselves to be safe drivers over time.

Look for discounts offered to drivers who take additional safety precautions on the road, such as by driving with winter tires or installing anti-theft devices.

Further savings can be had if you sign on for multiple policies, for example by insuring both your property and car with the same broker, or by insuring multiple vehicles.

If you have children attending university, make sure you also inquire about student away at school discounts.

Ultimately, a good insurance broker will be able to help you sort through the fine print of auto insurance policies and will know what questions ask in order to find the right policy for you and the discounts you are eligible for.

If you’re looking for auto insurance, Botsford & Main Insurance Brokers believes you should be rewarded for your years of experience and safe driving. Contact them at +1 (877) 633-4815 or via e-mail at support@botsfordmain.com for an insurance quote or to inquire about discounts you may be eligible for. Your great driving record should work for you

Newmarket Era

Whether you’ve been on the road for years or you’ve recently passed your road test, a clean record should work in your favour when shopping for auto insurance. Many insurance companies offer discounts to drivers who’ve never been in an accident and it’s important to be aware of the deductions you may be  eligible for before you look for insurance.

In addition to discounts, a bit of background knowledge can go a long way when shopping for a policy. First things first, insuring your vehicle will mean selecting one of three main categories of coverage. In Canada, all vehicles must have liability insurance to protect the driver should they cause injury or property damage to a third party while driving.

Most drivers will have to choose between collision and comprehensive insurance. Collision coverage insures a vehicle against damage in an accident. It’s a good option if the value of your vehicle is not great, and if replacing it on your own in the event of theft is an option. As the name suggests, comprehensive plans go beyond coverage in an accident, also insuring vehicles from theft and vandalism.

Auto insurance policies vary quite a bit from one insurance company to the next, so make sure to look out for particular features that may be important to you, like emergency roadside assistance in an accident or backup transportation while your vehicle is being repaired.

If you’re looking to purchase auto insurance, Botsford & Main Insurance Brokers believes you should be rewarded for your safe driving record. Contact them at +1 (877) 633-4815 or via e-mail at support@botsfordmain.com for an insurance quote or to inquire about discounts you may be eligible for. You can also visit them online at www.botsfordmain.com.

Travelex Introduces Booksmart: a Travel Insurance Enrollment & Marketing Tool

OMAHA, NE--(Marketwired - Jun 3, 2014) - Travelex Insurance Services has updated their online booking application, 'booksmart,' which makes offering travel insurance easier, faster and more efficient for travel agents.

With booksmart, agents can quickly compare Travelex plans, establish quotes and enroll their clients in a Travelex protection plan directly from their desktop without toggling between websites. A proprietary auto-email marketing tool, Smart Reminders has also been incorporated into the new booksmart. Smart Reminders are strategically timed emails which remind clients to purchase travel insurance prior to their departure date.

Booksmart helps travel agents:

  • Compare Travelex plans, generate quotes and enroll clients in a plan all within the booksmart application.
  • Booksmart automatically transfers client and trip data from the agent's GDS or ClientBase system into booksmart, saving agents valuable time.
  • Booksmart's Smart Reminders allow agents to automatically schedule a series of reminder emails, encouraging clients to enroll in a Travelex insurance plan, increasing their agency revenue.

Travel agents are already seeing the benefits of booksmart.

"I am very satisfied with Travelex's booksmart application," explained Dave Mellon, a travel advisor with Gateway Travel. "It's the only third party insurance company I work with. The quoting option is also nice and it appears to take less 'clicks' to enroll a policy. I find booksmart has made the process of booking travel protection easier."

In a fast-paced world, having a self-contained application is another notable plus for booksmart users. A travel agent can manage all their Travelex insurance offerings from quote to enrollment in one application. Additionally, with Smart Reminders, if their client does not purchase insurance when they initially book their trip, the agent can rest assured that their client will be reminded to purchase insurance before they depart on their trip.

Regulating replacement insurance: good news for consumers

LONGUEUIL, QC, June 2, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - In a recent article, the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) announced plans to regulate the sale and purchase of replacement insurance. In the RCCAQ's view, this decision marks a major step forward in efforts to denounce illegal business practices in which some auto dealers take part and to protect consumers' interests.

Efforts are paying off

The AMF's message comes through loud and clear. In the May 12 issue of Journal de l'assurance, the AMF publicly acknowledged what the RCCAQ has been saying all along: replacement insurance is a useful optional policy that meets a real consumer need. When this product is sold, however, improper and unregulated practices could have a negative impact on the marketing process.

"Over the past two years, we have submitted evidence to the AMF detailing illegal practices engaged in by certain auto dealers who have been taking advantage of consumers' ignorance about this product," said RCCAQ chairman Jean Bilodeau. "Our efforts are now starting to pay off." The RCCAQ has long taken the position that the sale of replacement insurance should be properly regulated.

Disturbing findings

The article in question ("Les dossiers chauds") includes a number of disturbing findings that have raised questions at the AMF, including the fact that 50%-70% of the premiums paid by consumers makes its way back to auto dealers in the form of commissions and that nearly 90% of consumers who replace vehicles after a write-off do so with the same dealer, even though they have the option of taking their business elsewhere. Mr. Bilodeau adds: "It's clear that consumers pay an average of 60% more when doing business with a dealer than they would with a broker. If they aren't extremely careful when signing their policy, they might end up having to replace their vehicle at the same dealership."

The AMF also noted that certain distributors are acting as if they were certified professionals (which brokers are). Unfortunately, many consumers are unaware that auto dealers are not authorized to collect their personal information when providing an insurance quote or when offering advice. That's why the AMF intends to ensure that the regulations are clearly understood by all stakeholders and, at the same, time, are aimed squarely at enforcing the related provisions, as they should be.

Brokers: watching over clients' interests

Meanwhile, the RCCAQ continues its outreach with the AMF by denouncing illegal business practices that are at odds with consumers' interests. Brokers will ensure that clients receive all the information they need to make a wise choice. Consumers know that replacement insurance will cost less with a broker, although they are free to do business with whichever dealer they choose.

Brief reminder

When buying a new vehicle, there are two ways to protect yourself against a partial or total loss: "replacement" insurance and "replacement value" insurance. Replacement insurance (QPF #5) is an additional policy, while a replacement value endorsement (43 A-E) is a rider to an auto insurance policy (QPF #1). Both products are available from your broker, who has the required expertise to explain their respective advantages. In contrast, auto dealers are not certified insurance professionals and thus cannot sell auto insurance (QPF #1), nor can they advise clients on related coverage. In addition, they are authorized to sell replacement insurance only.

About the RCCAQ

The RCCAQ is a professional association that seeks to promote and defend the socioeconomic interests of its members. It represents more than 4,200 brokers based in some 600 firms and branch offices in all regions of Quebec.
